Built for Ethereum’s post-quantum future.

Gean is an open-source Lean Ethereum consensus client written in Go. We are building Gean so validators and node operators have a dependable client to run as Ethereum transitions to post-quantum consensus.

Supported by an Ethereum Foundation grant.
About Gean

A client for Ethereum’s next era.

Ethereum’s consensus clients are responsible for how the network agrees on blocks and reaches finality. Lean Consensus reimagines that foundation around post-quantum security, faster finality and a simpler protocol.

Gean brings a Go implementation to this effort, with the goal of supporting the validators and infrastructure that will operate the network.

Why we build

Help Ethereum stay secure for generations to come.

Ethereum needs to evolve as the threats to its cryptography change. Preparing for powerful quantum computers means developing the software that will secure the network long before that threat becomes a reality.

We are building Gean to contribute to that future: a client designed around post-quantum consensus, with the security, performance and reliability that operating Ethereum demands.

For node operators

Built with the people running Ethereum in mind.

Validators and infrastructure teams need software they can depend on. Our development priorities reflect that responsibility: correct consensus behaviour, predictable resource usage, clear diagnostics and dependable operation.

Our goal is for Gean to become a practical choice for running post-quantum Ethereum, from individual validators to larger infrastructure deployments.

Built in Go

Bringing Go to Lean Ethereum.

Go already plays an important role in Ethereum infrastructure. Gean brings that language and its ecosystem to Lean Consensus, giving Go developers a familiar foundation for contributing to Ethereum’s next consensus layer.

As an independent implementation, Gean also contributes to the diversity of software available to future node operators.

Progress

Building the client today for the network ahead.

Gean is in active development and participates in Lean Consensus multi-client devnets, with the goal of being ready for node operators as Ethereum transitions to post-quantum consensus.

Gean is not yet an Ethereum mainnet client.

Gean Labs

Building useful technology for post-quantum Ethereum.

Gean Labs is an engineering team working on Ethereum and post-quantum infrastructure. Gean is our flagship software.

Our ambition is to build tools, applications and infrastructure that serve real needs and sustain a lasting contribution to Ethereum’s open-source ecosystem.

Frequently asked questions

What is Gean?

Gean is an open-source, post-quantum Lean Ethereum consensus client written in Go, developed by Gean Labs.

Who is Gean being built for?

Validators, node operators and infrastructure teams that will run Ethereum’s post-quantum consensus layer.

Can I run Gean today?

Yes, on supported development networks. The GitHub repository contains the latest setup instructions and requirements. Gean is not ready for production Ethereum mainnet use.

How is development supported?

Gean has received grant support from the Ethereum Foundation. Contributions and community support help us continue developing the client.

How can I contribute?

Explore the repository, review open issues, contribute code or documentation, and share findings from running the client.
